The best coding model in the world had a shelf life of 72 hours. Online June 9, offline June 12. I'll come back at the end to what that number actually says about your stack.

This week

Recap for anyone who took the weekend off. On June 9, Anthropic shipped Claude Fable 5 — Mythos class, the first model at that tier made generally available. It didn't beat the benchmarks, it embarrassed them: 80.3% on SWE-Bench Pro, 89.78% on LiveCodeBench, 88% on FrontierMath tier 4. Every ran the headline "the best coding model in the world." Three days later, on June 12, the US government ordered the entire Mythos 5 family shut down — jailbreak vulnerability, export controls. Gone. Worldwide. The most powerful model ever made broadly available had the shelf life of a rotisserie chicken.

Are you running your business on incomplete numbers?

Most small business owners have financials, but few have financial clarity. There's a real difference between books that are technically up to date and books that actually tell you what's going on in your business right now. When accounting is reactive — updated when there's time, reviewed at tax season — you lose visibility exactly when you need it most. You can't tell which clients are truly profitable. You can't spot a cash flow gap before it becomes a crisis. BELAY's outsourced accounting team changes that.

So what's "better than Fable" now? Technically, nothing. Which is exactly why GPT-5.5 is suddenly "the best model available" — not because it improved, but because its only real rival got deported. One detail for the insiders, though: even at its peak, GPT-5.5 driven through Codex was already beating Fable on Agents' Last Exam, the Berkeley benchmark that measures real economic work instead of exam parlor tricks. Translation: the "best model in the world" wasn't even the best at the actual job. It was the best at passing tests. A nuance nobody flagged while we were busy writing the obituaries.

But here's the real lesson, and this is where it stings. If one export-control memo can delete your entire workflow overnight, the model was never the problem — your workflow was. The people who didn't feel a thing on June 12 weren't on Fable. They were running a panel: three or four humbler models that review and correct each other. A Perspective Council beats a single frontier model on accuracy and it can't be unplugged by decree. Test for tomorrow morning: take your next hard prompt, run it past three different models, and have a fourth reconcile the answers. Half the price of a frontier seat, zero single point of failure. The single point of failure was never the server — it was betting on a model you don't control.

In the news

GPT-5.5 is now the most powerful frontier model available to developers — by forfeit, not by merit. Its competitor didn't lose a benchmark, it lost its operating license. This is the first time the model leaderboard flipped for a regulatory reason instead of a technical one, and it won't be the last. What actually happened on June 12.

Revenue Stack — June 2026

The panic reflex when Fable vanished was to chase the next model. Wrong reflex. What survives a model swap — any model swap — is a clean workflow: a deploy path, a test suite, verifiable success conditions. The model is interchangeable; the workflow isn't. The book's 8-step Blueprint builds exactly that: the ramp that makes your project independent of whatever model is writing it.

Your stack should never hang on a single model name. The book explains why — before the next one gets unplugged.

PS: reply with your current model stack — how many, which ones, and who reconciles. I'm compiling the smartest setups for a future edition. Bonus points if your poll answer was "didn't notice."

Back to those 72 hours. The lesson isn't that Fable was too good for this world. It's that betting your stack on a single model you don't control — that's the actual jailbreak vulnerability. On June 12, some people lost their main tool. Others lost a quarter of their panel and kept shipping. Guess which ones were reading this newsletter in June.
